So, if you’re anything like me, you have two groups of people in your life. Group one doesn’t bat an eye when you start recounting the latest true crime podcast you’ve become addicted to. They already have their phone in hand, searching the name, and hitting “subscribe” before you can finish your sentence. Or, even better, they have already heard the story and are one-upping it and giving you the name of the latest docuseries available on Netflix. Group two gets wide eyed and leans back and away as you test the waters to gauge their interest in your morbid curiosity. Their questions are always the same: Don’t you have nightmares? Isn’t that depressing? Why would you subject yourself to that? I don’t really have an answer, other than, I somehow find comfort in knowing the evil that lurks. Like I’m somehow more prepared by knowing these stories. Of course, I know that’s not true. How can anyone prepare for random acts of evil? Not possible. Yet, my brain binges on…..
A portion of all proceeds go to End The Backlog, a campaign dedicated to fund the hundreds of thousands of untested “rape kits” across the country. #endthebacklog
I’ve decided to create something that satisfies both “groups” through my other favorite past time – alcohol ink painting. Each of my paintings will highlight the lives of the victims before tragedy struck, built into a unique frame, hiding the true crime details. So YOU get to choose which “group” learns the story behind the artwork!
“My focus is on understanding why people commit violent and predatory acts, not to help them become better, more law-abiding citizens, but to aid in catching them, prosecuting them, and putting them away”
– John Edward Douglas
